222 MOVIES IN 2013 ||| 22 Movies Seen in Theatres

Pacific Rim

Guillermo  del Toro

★★★★★ out of 5

As soon as I got home, I had to write about this.  This movie gave me everything it promised me.  Kaiju, mecha, a host of great actors, and the ridiculously awesome action that I knew del Toro would deliver.  Reading various snippets of interviews with del Toro had me really interested in this movie.  He stated that this wasn’t about glorifying armies or “car commercial aesthetics” and that he didn’t need a sexed up female lead.  This movie is smart, fun action featuring some of my favorite people to watch.  Kikuchi Rinko has always been a huge favorite of mine, while I absolutely adore Idris Elba and Charlie Day (from Luther and It’s Always Sunny, respectively)..and everyone else is just so much fun to watch in this movie.  I like that he cast leads that weren’t really “well known” to the American public, but perhaps it’s why people didn’t go see it the first weekend it came out?  If that’s the reason, I’m a little ticked, but what can you do.  If you haven’t seen this in theatres yet, go see it.  This needs to be seen on the big screen.  It will make you feel like a kid again and it’s my favorite movie I’ve seen in theatres this summer (so far).

2011 was the year I became a self-proclaimed cinephile.

2012 was the year I watched 366 new films that I had never seen before.

2013 was the year I started the 222 movie challenge and began making gifs for my blog.

2014 is the year I created the 210 film challenge as a way to keep up a steady pace with film exploration.

Feel free to send me any movie suggestions! I'm always on the lookout for follower favorites.

Each month I change up the profile & sidebar pictures to a favorite film. Since I started making gifs, I thought I could be a bit more creative and add some visual interest month by month.

This month's film is Rush
